Modern History

My dad sends me interesting clippings from time to time about things he sees in his design travels. Today I got an ad from Modern History furniture from him and found some UNBELIEVABLE pieces. Come to find out, they are owned by the same company that owns Somerset Bay, my new favorite (very cheery) furniture line which I posted about a few months back. An abundance of goodies.

I have a thing for buffet tables. Right now I have two in my small dining room while I try to decide which goes into storage for the "next house" or "beach house" (lol). This one is insanely gorgeous, and has the copper wire hatching on the doors like my antique find- except I can guarantee you this one ain't $75!

These mirrors are both amazing. As is the decaying layered wallpaper background. Score one for the photo stylist.

This trunk is bananas. I love it. Tough yet so sophisticated.

Kelly LOVES Her Crimper.

Oh Kelly Wearstler. Your designs changed my life, but why oh why must you now torture me by using your crimper ALL. THE. TIME. It's bad, Kelly. Real bad. It wasn't even good in the 80's when it was "in". I think I've burned every photo of myself with this look (not to mention the braces, teal eyeshadow and puffy painted shirts that weren;t helping the matter either).

And while we are on the topic of KW, I am going to say this- and it pains me to do so, sacrilegious really- but her spread in this month's Domino was really disappointing. I really disliked the "new 70's Kelly" look. What did you guys think?

P.S. I *heart* Eddie Ross (who was ROBBED on that table setting challenge) and Nathan- who was hilarious last night.

Magic Carpet Ride

I have found a "new" love. Merida Meridian rugs. It's one of those lines that is EVERYWHERE here (they are based in Boston) but yet I had not heard of them until I was in a showroom the other day and saw them and FREAKED. A generous amount of pattered sisals, jutes and wools pervade their line, with so many custom bindings to chose from it's hard to pick just one!

Ruthie Sommers: American Idol

I know I have lauded the overflowing talent and business sense of Ruthie Sommers ad nauseum. But bear with me, as the release of her book approaches I have spent some time looking over her past designs and feeling very, very inspired. She is not only a master of the mix when it comes to the recipe for good interiors (a lot of this, a dash of that, a bit less of this- voila! Perfection!) but a great business woman as well who makes time for family while growing her business (read her Ladies Who Launch interview here). I'm pleased to say that my own little business and growing fast as well, being fully booked and bursting with excitement over my projects both big and small, I am looking ahead to see where I can take this. Looking at Ruthie's great success only inspires me more! From the very first cover of Domino (above left) to the cover of her own book... a girl can dream, and make it come true.
