A World of Good

Another way to help out others while helping your home look it's sassiest...One Thread partners with female artisans worldwide to produce handcrafted pillows like the ones below. The sales of these items help these battered and impoverished women become self-sufficient and helps to create better lives for them and their families.

Each item even has a tag on it that tells you who made it and what they believe in....

Again, we all win!

HGTV Green Home

Who wouldn't want to win a whole house- especially when it's the HGTV Green Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida? Already decorated and pimped out with all the latest and greatest in green products, all you'd have to do it turn the key (and pay the tax bill- which might be an issue!) Ahhh, never mind the messy details- I'll be entering every day anyways!

Loving the stripes paired with the white sunburst mirror in the foyer, with just a hint of animal print!

Not a big fan of the living room- looks a bit anemic for a Floridian space...

Loving this vignette with the cane back chair, natural wood table, sleek lamp and classic bust- a great mix of styles and textures!

I love this lounge space- a couple of bright chaises sitting in front of some wine coolers with fantastic throw pillows and Stray Dog Designs lamp? I'd stay here 24/7. Wino alert.

The natural wood ceiling shown here is quite something!

Loving the horse print...

A sleek kitchen

A darling master bedroom (I would have done a more fun rug-Weinrib if money were no object!)

This little girl's room is so bright and cheery- I love the mix of shades of pink and orange.

If one of you wins, can I please come visit? :)

Fashion Friday (on Monday)-EcoFabulous

(all dresses by EcoSkin)

One of the best things about traveling to me is hitting Hudson News and buying absolutely obscene amounts of magazines with zero guilt. My last cross country flight I think I had eight different rags stacked in my hands upon boarding. So this weekend, with only a one hour flight I still managed to get four read. I saw a dress (above, green background) in InStyle that made me swoon, and even more swoon-worthy is the fact that it's made of bamboo and Tencel and designed by a line called EcoSkin. When I think of eco-friendly clothing I think of sack-like garments made of itchy hemp. But this dress looked paparazzi ready, so I went in search of it. Of course, it's sold out about everywhere I looked, except in black at BlondeLA. But there are so many great little dresses by them (see above) it's hard to choose!
And while searching for the dress I found this site, Nimli, which has the most stylish selection of eco-chic clothing, jewelry and accessories I've seen to date! Here is a taste of the goods, but there were just so many things I liked (especially the jewelry) that I couldn't possibly post them all.

Sandals made from recycled leather and fabrics

Great bracelets (loving the ombre silk!)

Gorgeous, glamorous earrings with opal.

Even something for Fido- a recycled wine box feeder!

Media Mobile!

I sometimes am totally grossed out by the stacks and stacks of magazines that live under various tables and in baskets around my house. I have a full blown addiction, and can only sleep at night knowing that I recycle them. But while perusing my favorite baby site yesterday, Fawn & Forest, I came across this recycled magazine mobile and thought, "When that time comes, how PERFECT for my stylish little offspring!" Although perhaps it would be a terrible way to get the little peanut hooked from infancy, staring up at clippings from Vogue and Domino. Eh, I digress, it's so cool and earth friendly!

Pretty AND Green!

This tip about the company Pretty Green came from my friend Liza. I am loving these reusable grocery totes they make out of Amy Butler's fabulous fabrics! After watching Oprah last week about recycling and green efforts, I am determined to never use a plastic or paper bag again! These would help make it tres, tres chic to do so!

Architecture Buffs, Prepare to Drool.

The Jennifer Siegal Portable Home, above.

I found this site, The Value of Architecture, from a flyer I took while in L.A. about a prefab mobile (but not like a "double-wide-with-a- redwood- deck" kind of mobile) home designed by Jennifer Siegal. They actually call it a portable home, thankyouverymuch. It has tons of green features and looks quite luxurious. So you simply find a plot of land for a little vacation retreat and they deliver this already built modern home ($249,000) right to the site! It comes complete with Boffi kitchen and bath, european fixtures, an iPort sound system and translucent polycarbonate panels.

But while perusing this site I realized it was a total gold mine for real estate and architecture buffs with a penchant for mid-century style homes! You'll simply DIE over the array of styles (and prices) on here. I spent a good hour yesterday looking through every single page of every single city! Enjoy!

Save Me HGTV!

Do you know what would make my week better? Winning this house in the HGTV Green Home Sweepstakes!
I was watching a special tour of the home on TV while throwing myself one hell of a pity party and so now Andrew and I make sure we enter once day! Kind of the same chances of finding Ed McMahon on my doorstep with a sofa sized check, but hey, we are due some good luck! Plus, this house is GORGEOUS! Check it out, and then go to the site to enter yourself!

(note: the table lamps above are by Stray Dog Designs and I love them! Especially the tall, stalky one, which I've seen in other magazines recently. And they are made of all recycled materials!)
Adore this bedroom:

The buffet below left used to be a bakery display counter:

The firepit in the backyard reminds me of The Parker!
