Brown Baggin' In Style.

With the economy the way it is a bet a lot more of you are packing your own lunches to bring to work rather than spend $8 on a sandwich at the local deli. Well, brown baggin' it just got cooler thanks to chef Mario Batali and his fabulous purse-like Marguerite Satchel lunch bag! Perhaps not as cool as your old Thundercats/Barbie lunchox of yesteryear, but a heck of a lot nicer looking than a paper bag or old shopping bag- plus it'll keep your goods cool and the planet a little greener.

Mirror, Mirror...

I love these inventive mirror magnet boards with gorgeous designs and adorable magnets (especially the chinoiserie inspired one, going with today's theme). Add some glamour to an office space or kitchen!)

Chair Fair

I am going through my inspiration files and actually, well, FILING them. I found this tear out from an old Domino Cottage Living and remember thinking how great wing chairs (check the monogram too!) like this would look at the heads of a long farm table paired with really simple side chairs. Here are a modern and traditional pick for pairings- a Queen Anne chair from Pottery Barn and, in a bold move, these modern aluminum chairs with simple, classic lines and fantastic wood paneled backs!

The Day I Fell in Love With...Handwash?

They say it's the little things that count right?
While at Target yesterday I spotted this beauty, made by the geniuses at Method. Hand wash pre-packaged in a modern, designer label-less quilted cube- like a little Chanel for the OCD, germaphobe set! I totally had to get it, even though I am not in need of hand wash right now. It may just replace my Jonathan Adler soap dispenser it's so damn cute! The rest of the line is equally as charming- including the quilted soap bars! Design can be found in every, little last detail...

What Style Are You?

I love taking online quizzes, and this is one that will "help you find your style". I have ADD style, so it's always hard to pin me down, but I like that they deemed me "city sophisticate". I know you want to slack off right now, and if your reading this blog, this is the perfect thing for you! It even suggests certain pieces for each room (granted, it's a British site and everything is from jolly ol' England...)

My results:

Psuedo-DIY Headboard

A reader was so kind as to alert me to this, I'm kind of embarassed I had not taken note of it! A upholstered headboard kit from Horchow! They send you everything you need but the fabric, which you choose yourself. It comes in three shapes and allows you to style it as you like (add nail heads or ribbon trim perhaps?) Yes, you could go to Home Depot and a sewing supply shop get some stuff to make one for cheaper, but for $150 for a queen, this saves you gas money and the hassle!

Steely Country Style

I saw this stainless steel settee in this month's Boston Home Magazine and was interested in it's designers. Turns out, the designer is Tall Tree Guild- a team collaboration between old friends from Mass Art. I am intrigued by the classic country lines rendered in such a urban material. The setee is simply stunning- and weighs 350 pounds!

Save Polaroid!

So remember that post about wanting to have a petition to save Polaroid film? Well, as it turns out, my own BROTHER has started a whole site dedicated to finding a way to continue having the instant film produced. Go to Save Polaroid to learn more about ways to take action. And if you really love Polaroid, there is no better tribute than this awesome print Sean (again, my brother) has for sale on his site- along with many other vintage camera prints.

My New Favorite Coffee Table Book

I was wandering around the Prudential the other day before a doctor's appointment and after smelling the LOVELY new Chloe perfume at Saks, and for some reason I wandered into J.Jill. Not sure why, since I never shop there. But good thing I did because I found this little book in there that is not only graphically beautiful but also a compilation of relevant and meaningful quotes. I am a total quote whore, I love me a good set of life inspiring quotes- so this is perfect. Not to mention it looks great on my coffee table. I think this would be a great last minute Valentine's day gift for anyone. I am going to try to read it every morning to remind myself of all these great "rules for living".

I have to add pictures of Baxter and I watching the Westminster Dog Show last night. He sat at the end of the couch RIGHT in front of the TV carefully judging the contestants. He seemed to like the Poodles because his tail would wag a bit when one was on. I guess he has a thing for high maintenance women like his Mommy.
We were rooting for the Beagle because the Havanese just didn't have enough spirit...and had stupid hair.

I was just at the post office shipping goodies and picked up these GORGEOUS Tiffany stamps!!! They made my morning!

My New Mantra

There is nothing more perfect to hang above my desk than this. My tendency to get anxious and dramatic is legendary, and if I can look at this every day perhaps I'll become that serene optimist I so want to be.

Or maybe it just makes me laugh.

This is a copy of a WWII poster that was plastered all over Britain at the beginning of the war to try to entice the citizens to keep living their daily lives. For me, it'll be a daily reminder that the sky is not falling and to take everything one day at a time.

You can get the poster in a variety of colors on the Keep Calm Gallery site for about $40 plus shipping from the UK. However, I found it on Barter Books for much less (but it only comes in the original red).

I plan on framing this in a ornate carved wood (like above) frame that I will paint glossy white.

Feeling Very Martha

The beautiful fall day here inspired me to start getting ready for the holidays and so I set out to make a wreath for our front door. I wanted something modern and fresh but still warm and fuzzy and so I covered a foam wreath form with preserved green moss (glue guns are addictive!) and got some gorgeous mink colored moire ribbon to accent it. However, I felt like I wanted to punch it up JUST a bit more and so I founf a font I liked, cut the initial out on brown cardboard and covered it in the most gorgeous fine glitter in a shade called smokey quartz (made by Martha, natch). I love it and already have gotten compliments.
So if anyone would like a custom made moss wreath for the holidays please e-mail me at erin@element-interiors.com . I was thinking they would look gread studded with faux pearls or wrapped in a great printed ribbon...you name it.

Sweet Smelling Side Note

I picked up this diffuser at West Elm the other day in the Lavender Mint scent and it is heavenly! My bathroom now smells like a luxurious spa! I think I will put one in the bedroom too as lavender is supposed to help you sleep.

What Will They Think of Next?

Been searching for that perfect duvet cover to go with your newly painted walls and coming up empty? Fret not, little design mavens, for Inmod, the modern decor site, now has it's own design-your-own modern bedding application. It's much like paint by numbers if it were done by the folks at Dwell. The colors are a little limited and only a few of the patterns are really cool....but, I did just waste 40 minutes on there coming up with cool combinations! And it even has a birdseye preview option in which you can change the rug and room accessories to reflect your own (or those on your wish list!)
Pretty darn cool if you ask me!

Another use for wine glasses...if you can spare any.

How cute is this? No really, how CUTE is this? I want to be the kind or person who thinks up these kind of adorably ingenious creations.

Dekoop created these fantastic little shades that you place on top of wine glasses with tealights in them to create miniature Simon Pearce-esque "lamps". Line up 6 of them down the middle of a long dining table on top of a fun table runner to create a very simple, mod mood.

I however, really enjoy filling my wine glasses with wine too, so this could present a challenge.

$20 for three shades.

Beautifully Concealed

Those yucky textured glass privacy windows. You know them. I have one in my bathroom in fact. Finally, a way to protect your privacy while adding a fantastic decorative element to your home!
Emma Jeffs' printed window film comes in a variety of patterns like lace, morroccan tiles (my fave) and florals which you can cut to your window size and stick....Voila! Your friends will be so delighted (and impressed with your modern chic aesthetic) the next time the use your loo.
You can buy them at Pure Modern.
