Stylish Blankets that are Eco Friendly

I didn't even notice these were eco-friendly cotton when I saw them featured in House & Garden this month. Score one for the environment AND style. The zebra in brown or mint green and the paisley in any pattern are my favorites. At $125 each, pretty easy on the wallet too.

Great Gift Buying Site

http://www.decorativethings.com
I have always loved this site for whimsical home accessories in a variety of patterns. I am loving some of their new ones...no need to have the same ol' boring Umbra trash can in your bathroom when you can have one of these. Such a great site for gifts anyone would love for thier home!

We're In...

Phew.
With my back aching and design ideas running through my head a mile a minute, I am now sitting at my uber-cool new IKEA desk in my office.
I have a whole OFFICE, people.
Coming from a 698 square foot den of clutter, I feel odd in so much space. Andrew even exclaimed when thirsting for a drink, "It's so FAR to the kitchen!"
In our last place you could practically open the fridge from the couch.
Alas, he will not be getting the beer fridge in the living room he asked for last night. Big design no-no.
As I slowly progress with my design, I'll post pictures. It's going to be FABULOUS. I can barely wait.
Patience, grasshopper...

On the move....

Here it is, time to leave Cambridge for the greener (literally) pastures of our new JP home. Finally, closets galore, a dining room for entertaining and three bedrooms for guests.
Needless to say, posts are on hold until next week when I resurface from the insanity of boxes, paint and furniture catalogues.

Happy Weekend!!!

Cool Site: NapaStyle

As I count the weeks until my jaunt to Napa Valley, I came across this site thanks to my mom and found some really great lighting! I live the organically shaped glass pendant lights which would look amazing over a kitchen island, and the raffia drum light that is perfect for above a small dining table. These glowy orb lights for outside entertaining would look so etheral placed in various part of a garden, yard or patio when having an outdoor party!

And how about this mailbox that had an interior light that is solar powered so when you have guests looking for your house at night, you are incredibly easy to find! Genius!

For stationery addicts like myself...

Nothing beats opening your mailbox and finding REAL tangible correspondence inside from someone other than the traffic department warning you that you'll be getting the boot soon unless you pay up. Iomoi is just the site for those of you who write letters still and want some funky, hollywood regency style stationery. And for those who ONLY correspond via e-mail, they even have e-stationery you can purchase in a variety of types and styles for just $15 a year! I'm SOLD on all counts!

Look further and you'll find they make custom lucite trays (great for a bedroom dresser catch all), paperweights, custom coasters, address labels and big, fantastic boxes of matches (no more crappy restaurant matchbooks for you!). All of these items would make breathtakingly fab gifts.

I want one of everything please. No, make that two.
(e-mail stationery sample above- so friggin' cool!)

Element Services

I realized this morning I have yet to explain exactly what my new little company Element Interiors has to offer beyond the blog. So here is a little bit about my approach to design and how I work:

The purpose of starting this company was to cater to what I believe to be is an underserviced market: young professionals who are too busy to decorate or don't have an interest in it but want thier living space to relect them and functions in a way that makes sense within thier life. This encompasses people buying their first or second condo or first house but also those renting apartments who want to give it character without losing their security deposits! Hiring a "designer" can be intimidating, many have minimum requirements for jobs and so the common folk finds the idea daunting and intimidating.

So here I am! Friendly, approachable, flexible and ready to help!

I love the challenge of working within a budget because there is so much good design out there that doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. I want to listen to what you want out of your space and furniture, how you live within your home and most importantly what makes you happy!

So if you want help just buying new furniture, advice on paint colors, window treatments, rearranging your current furniture to work better for you, adding some accessories to spice it up or redo a place top to bottom, give me a call!

I also have a deep love for event design (and some great experience). I would love to help anyone design the look and style of any event: wedding, dinner party, birthday celebration...you name it! From flowers to centerpieces and invitations, I am your girl.

I charge an hourly fee and a percentage markup on any wholesale goods (which still provides you with a discount over retail-lucky you.)

Can't wait to hear from you!

Designer Spotlight: Lulu DK

I am mad for this line of fabrics. A bit pricey, as expected from a line of textiles designed by a socialite....but so elegantly simple and stunning. Lulu is now also doing a line of rugs and some couches for Elite Leather, but her strength lies in her pattern design which she does by hand using watercolors.

Another use for wine glasses...if you can spare any.

How cute is this? No really, how CUTE is this? I want to be the kind or person who thinks up these kind of adorably ingenious creations.

Dekoop created these fantastic little shades that you place on top of wine glasses with tealights in them to create miniature Simon Pearce-esque "lamps". Line up 6 of them down the middle of a long dining table on top of a fun table runner to create a very simple, mod mood.

I however, really enjoy filling my wine glasses with wine too, so this could present a challenge.

$20 for three shades.

Seriously Cool.

Returning this morning from a lovely 2 day beach vacation on the Cape, I am feeling quite nature-loving and seaside inspired. One of my favorite things about living by the shore (besides spending the whole day working on my basal cell carcinoma with a stack of magazines)- are rainy beach days spent in front of a fire or crisp evenings doing the same. However, being not so rustically inclined, actually starting a fire can be a challenge for me if it doesn't involve propane and a switch or whining to my husband or father to build me one. Alas, someone has invented the mother of all lazy girl fire pits. Columbo Construction Corporation makes hammered copper fire bowls that sit outside on your deck/lawn/patio that are propane fueled and require no logs or eagle scout badges. Brilliant, modern and simply gorgeous. It'll cost you your first born, but possibly worth it.
