Trumpet vs. Tulip

On my permanent wish-list sits the Saarinen marble top tulip side table. A design classic that fits into any decor, the licensed reproduction by Knoll would be well worth the splurge- it would be something I could have forever and use in a number of rooms. However, right now such a splurge is not possible- until I can save enough to get it, there is the uber-cheap Trumpet table at Target. Not nearly as elegant, but would serve it's purpose is making a visual statement.

The trumpet table for $24.99 vs. the Tulip table with arabescato marble top for $759.

I am working ahrd on my gift guides and hope to beging tomorrow with one!

I would stick it out and get the real deal!!! I too have the "tulip" on my ongoing wish list. I found a few on 1st Dibs that were priced reasonably.. or there's always Design Within Reach..they are around $700 there, I am sure you know that already.. I am too reluctant to order from 1st Dibs as I will want my table to be free of flaws..

I admit I have the "cheapo" copycat. But I just wanted a touch of modern in my room and didn't have the $ or will to spend more just in case I didn't like it...thank god for Target!! I am usually one to prefer the real deal, but I think a mix of cheap with high end is a more practical mix for anyone nowadays for clothes and decor!

I think this one is a case for saving up for the real deal. I'm all for going cheap on home decor (I scour Salvation Army regularly), but my general philosophy with both clothes/accessories and with home decor is to avoid the cheap knock offs at all costs. I feel like the Target version (and the Ikea version of this for that matter) is the furniture equivalent of a fake Gucci. A bit sad.

Hey, I just saw a similar little table at UrbanOutfitters.com. Comes in two top patterns. Kinda slick!
